Kanom Jeeb is a traditional Thai steamed dumpling filled with a mixture of minced pork and shrimp, wrapped in a delicate rice flour dough.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup rice flour
  • 1/2 cup tapioca flour
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 200g minced pork
  • 100g shrimp, peeled and chopped
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon white pepper
  • 1 tablespoon chopped garlic
  • Banana leaves for wrapping

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix rice flour, tapioca flour, and water to form a smooth dough.
  2. In another bowl, combine minced pork, chopped shrimp, soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, white pepper, and garlic.
  3. Take a small piece of dough and flatten it into a circle.
  4. Place a spoonful of the filling in the center of the dough circle.
  5. Fold the dough over the filling and pinch the edges to seal.
  6. Wrap each dumpling in a piece of banana leaf.
  7. Steam the dumplings for about 20-25 minutes until cooked through.
  8. Serve hot with a dipping sauce of your choice.

Notes

  • Ensure the banana leaves are softened by briefly passing them over a flame or steaming them.
  • You can substitute the filling with vegetables for a vegetarian option.
  • Adjust the seasoning according to your taste preference.
